Found a couple of nice photos from the Tudor Joust at Kenilworth last weekend for English Heritage by Destrier Pro.

Griff was there too as King.

First was a draw, second I won, third he battered me completely (I believe the expression he used was a righteous twatting), fourth I won with a convincing break on his helmet and three shield breaks. Basically we both won as we walked away from a real joust smiling and utterly exhausted.

Dom's horses were used for the skill at arms. Mine/Nicky's of Tournament Stud, the two jousters were Segunda (chestnut mare) and Mutley (coloured stallion)

Thanks Andreas. Using solids has been an education. The whole event takes much more physical and mental energy than I was expecting. Being hit by someone when you don't have a lance is much worse than when you are just concentrating on hitting him and leaning into the impact. Having said that Phillipe is a large man with some vast amount of jovial, loud, gallic energy behind his lance. I was honoured to raise a spark from his helm.

I have met Sean a few times, he is quite ugly in real life, he wears loads of make-up and as for the beard, well, nothing that a few pints of gum wont stick down.

Lidy, you will get used to seeing reenactors or reenactment related performers on the box, in books, publicity, news, etc, but enjoy it while it is still new.

I still crease my lips when I see Griff on the box, my eldest daughter happened to be watching the tv when his Grifftitude was on and she shrieked "It's MARK GRIFFIN" and went on about it for ages, bless her little cotton socks.

"Sean of the Telly" is Sean George (riding as the Maltese knight Giorgio Francesco Azzopardi, Baron of Buleben), a web-designer/actor/stuntman who jousts with Destrier and for Griffin Historical (and, yes, he still does).

The first picture you posted however is Graham Turner, Osprey-Illustrator and purveyor of finest paintings. He's happily married, I am afraid

Which is right and true, she needs to understand that really good 15thc kit is pretty damn good.

I am no armour or horse fanatic, but after working at two of Griff's Tower jousty things, seeing the work first hand, I was shrieking, er hussaing with the rest of them. My second stint was scorer, at 90 degrees to the tilt rail and it was pure adrenalin, those guys know their craft, hats off. Was sad to have missed the last one due to other work commitments, missed Jeff Hedgecock's turns, other than a quick hello Gwen and him on the Friday night.

Lidy, pop down with Annis to ToL this August, to see the Smithfield joust, you will love it, plus meet people you have not met yet.
